There are Blackberry plans for Airtel Prepaid Connections now. It was just for Post Paid customers, the last time I checked. As I was only visiting India back then, I never applied for Post Paid plan or the Blackberry Service. I came to know from a cousin that we can activate Blackberry services on the Blackberry by sending an SMS.
With this knowledge, and the knowledge of the Airtel Prepaid Blackberry Plans, I recharged my mobile with 555 e-recharge from a nearby shop and settled down to send the SMS to 121 as it was mentioned on the website.
When there was no reply, I was perplexed. I immediately dialed 121 for assistance. After selecting a few options I was finally connected to an agent. I put forward my query to him and he gave me another number to dial to ask for assistance regarding Blackberry Services.
From this new person, I learnt that you need to send a series of three different SMS’s to activate the BB Service. he then told me that for doing this, I would require Rs. 399 in my Main account. I never knew there was something called Main Account. Apparently, I had added 555 to some other account as 555 recharge has a Validity Period. This is something new to me. I have been charging Airtel numbers for the past four years. I have never heard anyone talk about different charging accounts. I wonder if this is a new feature. Now I will have to finish the recharge amount “talking” before the Validity Period, which is not mentioned anywhere on the Balance Message.
I am not sure, if I want to try another chance at recharging the “Main Account” from anywhere else. I guess, I will need to get to an Authorized Airtel Office soon if I want to apply for any service on my Airtel Number. It will be much safer that way!
