Semia Upma

Ingredients:Roasted Vermicelli  – 2 Cup
Onion – 2 medium Sized chopped
Mustard Seeds – ¼ Teaspoon
Asafoetida – A pinch
Urad Dal – ½ Teaspoon
Chana Dal – ½ Teaspoon
Dry Red Chilli – 2
Green Chilly – 2 finely chopped
Ginger – Very small piece crushed
Curry Leaves – 7-8
Oil – 1 Tablespoon
Salt to taste

Method:

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan or kadai.
  2. Add the urad dal.
  3. Add the mustard and asafetida after the urad dal becomes slightly browned.
  4. When the mustard splutters, add the red and green chillies, curry leaves and ginger.
  5. Add the onions and sauté till they are transparent.
  6. Add the vermicelli and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Add 1 cup of boiling water and salt and mix well.
  8. Cook for  around 5 minutes on low flame with cover.
  9. Semia Upma is ready to serve with pickles or chutney.
