‘What’s happened?’ boomed Howard’s voice, with a slightly tinny edge; Miles had put him on speakerphone for Samantha’s benefit.

The marriage was over and nothing Howard could do or say would change that. Maybe if Miles had seen it coming, he would persuaded Samantha to stay on in the marriage. But she had been suffering in this loveless marriage quietly for a long time now while Miles had been living in the past. A love that should have died with Annie, still lingered on in his heart. And now it threatened to end his marriage with Samantha too. Β Howard, who had graduated from high school and was away at college now, wasn’t surprised Β at all.

**** I am so impressed with thisΒ 7x7x7x7 writing prompt at Write Tribe that I actually pointed to the 7th sentence in the 7th page of the 7th book and wrote 7 sentences on it *****

  1. I could not finish the book either, it is too British and too limited. For me it did not transcend borders and span cultures like the Potter series did. Nice response to the prompt

  2. You had a tough sentence to begin with πŸ˜€ But good work with it nonetheless.

I heard it wasn’t as good as the Potter series, so I haven’t taken it on yet. Maybe some day.

    • It is not as gripping as the Potter series. I think the first chapter in the first book of the series captured the hearts of many. This somehow doesn’t do that even at chapter 5. 😦

  4. Jyoti ,inspite of a difficult line you have done a wonderful job. My son is reading the book. I was nudging him to finsh it fast. but after seeing the general opinion now there is no hurry.

    • No hurry at all! This one is a little difficult to digest. So planning to take it to Kerala with me this time and read it while listening to the rains. πŸ™‚

  5. Let me join the band wagon as well… couldn’t finish the book, had pre-ordered and waited for it with a lot of Potter expectation… and lol! it remains in the unfinished shelf…
And what a prompt prompt re… loved it.. πŸ™‚

  6. It’s the worst that could happen to anyone – the ghost of a past love affecting one’s present relationship. It takes a very mature person to understand that the one who is associated with him now, had no part to play in his past, and does not deserve to suffer. Well done with the prompt.

      • I agree, it might be too much of a loss – but that does not give one the liberty to pass the pain on. If one is still carrying past baggage, then it’s wiser not to involve anyone else in one’s present, unless he/she is willing to keep the past completely away from the present. “mere saath yeh hua tha, woh hua tha, that’s why i reacted like that” and blah blahs are all unresolved issues that a present friend/lover does not deserve to go through.

        • Very true Punam. No one deserves that. But then again, who doesn’t come with some kind of baggage these days. It is about finding that connection and understanding. Sometimes when that lacks and then the past takes over.

  7. Nice one. This happens a lot, I think. If you cannot let go of a past relationship, you will ruin even the present one. Neither here nor there. Well-written. Thanks.
