Holding on to a job is tough indeed in this world, thought Laxmi. Especially if you are a young widowed mother of two children. Her degree in Engineering was of not much importance to any of her bosses. Her looks , her figure and her smile. That is what everyone complimented her on.

Her hope of earning a decent livelihood was getting tougher by the day. She had left home to get married to the man she loved. She couldn’t return to her parents with her troubles. Her husband had no family to speak of either. She had stayed at home to look after her kids while her husband earned for them. But fate had other plans for her.

She invested the savings from the past three months into a camera disguised as a pen. She took that pen every where she went. She would then threaten , anybody who tries to harass her , with the video clippings. She managed to hold on to her job for now because of this. Her craft had managed to feed her kids and her. Nothing else mattered to her.

  1. Loved the voice in here Jyothi-a slice of real life:-)

Do you think it could be “anybody who tried” instead of”anybody who tries” and “she had managed to” or “she was managing to” rather than “she managed to”,in the last para? I hope you understand that this is just a suggestion-not criticism:-)

  2. Surely if she has to threaten to keep her job, there are better prospects out there. I hope she doesn’t lose something of herself in all this near-blackmailing.
