Festival of Words

I had a dream that I had finished up the Festival of Words and that I had visited and commented on all posts for the festival , during the short nap that I was blessed with a few minutes ago. My back aches and every part of me is swollen. I shifted homes yesterday! The plan was to shift after the 15th. Plans always have a way of changing!

I managed to prepare my first meal in this home today. The dream brought me back to my senses and here I am winding up my Day 7 post. Unpacking can wait!

P.S : I will visit and comment on all posts for this festival for sure. Just not sure when! ūüė¶

Feeling Lonely

Seema was busy unpacking her clothes and setting up her cupboard. She had decided to move in into shared accommodation with her colleague. Getting used to living among the crowd that gathers in her room in the hostel, had taken time. She was not a people person before her parents decided to send her to the boarding school.

She was back to being in a room by herself. Her new apartment mate was busy on her mobile. Seema missed her friends like crazy. She picked up her mobile and shared her feelings online. She was among her people once again.

I was always bad at history. I was bad at cramming stuff. I remember studying for the United Nations test every year for a few years in school. A small booklet was handed to us for us to study. In there the mention of Geneva, Switzerland as the head quarters made it an exotic place. It looked heavenly! I dreamt of working there.

Besides the Alps, chocolates and CERN , seeing this place where history was made was a must. This chair and its significance was a new discovery for me. This trip to Switzerland was indeed a dream come true.

Is that the same shirt you were wearing yesterday, son? I gathered my courage to ask him. Yes! Came the uninterested reply. The fact that I had placed that shirt in the laundry basket myself this morning along with a set of used socks and sweater ,that I gathered from the bed in his room, had no impact on him!

It is futile expecting the kids’ rooms to be perfect during exams. At least there was no leftover food or sticky stains anywhere to wipe off! Thank you mom, came a loud roar from his room. Music to my ears.

It is the power of the written word that keeps our brain active. Physical exertion might seem more trying than a mental one. Maybe the adrenalin rush is different. Have you tried being an armchair traveller? That can be exhilarating too if you are imagining it right.

Imagine the mental calories burnt when trying to decipher the clues put forward by the author and identify the killer before half the book is over! It is pure hard work I tell you.

Now I read while on the treadmill. Now if that isn’t the perfect combination then tell me what is?

Life was much simpler when all I had to worry about was cooking food for just the two of us. We were happy with rice gruel even for dinner. Or maybe just a vegetable soup!

Now everyday is a struggle to decide what to cook for dinner. Four people, four choices. We were a family of five. My father and we three sisters were quite happy with whatever my mom decided to place on the table. Am I spoiling my kids giving them such choices?

And by choices I mean the set of restaurant menus I collected over the years!
