Eid in RAK

It was a strange kind of Eid Holidays this year. Every year we do plan something in advance for the long weekend that we get for Eid during this time of the year. This year was a slightly different one. My kids are both in their board exam years, so we are tied down at home because of this. But yesterday was the last day of hols for my kids and we decided to take a break from everything normal and enjoy a day out.

Memories are meant to be preserved in the form of pictures that remind us of these days and the warmth that these feelings bring about again when we look back at these days. After a very long time, I picked up my camera to click pictures. Of course, the photos below are a combination of pictures clicked from my DSLR and from my iPhone. Sometimes , it is difficult to make out which is which. If you can, do let me know. 🙂

Why I love Airports?

Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport

As a child (not many years ago), I used to be fascinated with the place called an “Airport”. I had no idea how an aeroplane flew from Dubai and landed us in Mumbai. It was a mystery for a very long time. But even when the mystery of Aviation was revealed to me, the wonder and fascination of the airport remained intact. Even when the frequency of travel changed from once in two years to at least three times a year.

The earlier flights to Kochi were through Mumbai. The direct flight to Thiruvanthapuram was generally avoided because of the tiring drive to Palakkad. My uncle used to come to pick us up in his mighty white Ambassdor car. His jokes were a class apart. I have never seen or been with either of my grandfathers. This particular uncle was old enough to be my grandfather. In many ways I always considered him that.

The trip in those days was to meet our relatives and friends back in Palakkad and spend the two summer months in the cool Kerala rains. These days trips are about exploring the world. I love to travel. My first venture out of India was at the age of 5. But that was homeshifting and not travelling. I guess I can say that my first actual HOLIDAY tour was to Singapore/Malaysia back in the year 2001. My kids were 4 and 2 years old back then. Since that trip, we took a long gap (till 2010) from such holidays and began exploring the various parts of India instead. The kids were too small to handle such long travels abroad. In fact my son, who generally had no problems like vomiting, had a tough time on board the Singapore Airlines flight that day.

The Dubai airport has a special place in my heart. I have been coming here every year of my life since the age of 5. I have seen it grow. Yet, the fascination of the airport, be it in any part of the world, makes me feel like a child again. Ready to explore and learn something new.

Today, I embark on one such long pending tour. We are at present at the Heathrow Airport, Terminal 3, London , waiting to board our flight to Newark International Airport, New Jersey, USA. My first trip to the continent of North America.

Miracle Garden 2014

I don’t think there could have been a better way to spend the first day of the new year. I spent it with my sisters and our families at the Dubai Miracle Garden. I am sure with all the cameras we used to click photos that day, we would have easily crossed the 1000 mark. Yes, 1000+ photos of a 1.5 hours visit to the fabulous Miracle Garden, Dubai.

Last year I visited the place alone in the morning on a week day. I got a lot of pictures (find them at What My Camera Captures)  without random people in them. This time I wasn’t so lucky as it was too crowded. I did manage to click quite a few lovely patterns, but I missed quite a few too. 😦

What is the point in taking the pictures if you don’t share them right? So I always click two sets of pictures. One with family members and one without them for sharing here.  🙂

It is an iPhone pic. I must carry a DSLR with me at all times from now. But the phone is so handy! 🙂

A Good Morning

Some mornings are definitely better than others! I know I am not supposed to be prejudiced, but some mornings are like that! What is one to do but compliment the creator for the beautiful world that he/she has created.

All though mankind is doing its every bit to ruin the creation, there are still things out there for us to watch and enjoy. For a person like me, who has lived in this desert from age 5, listening to birds chirping in the morning and looking at fresh flowers in the morning are things that happen very very rarely.

Shifting homes was a pain. I truly agree. But when I shifted back to this home after 4 years, I realised how much I missed this place. And it being winter here, the place I missed the most is the garden. Everyday now I wake up to chirping birds and the fragrance of fresh flowers. There is a balcony just outside my bedroom.

Here are a few shots I clicked today morning. I must share this here, so that it will remind me at a later date that, yes, some mornings are indeed worth waking up to too. 🙂

Will I finish?

Perseverance

Perseverance

The question for the day is :

Do you think you’re more or less likely to complete December’s NaBloPoMo?  Why?

I am sure I will be able to post till the 15th of December. In the sense, if nothing untoward happens, I will be able to make it to December 15th. Beyond that there maybe a problem if I have to shift from this apartment  and have no wifi for a few days while adjusting into the new place. But the shift itself is not a confirmed one. In case I don’t shift this month then I think I will be able to finish the challenge.

This is the thing that I want to challenge myself  to. To be able to write and post everyday no matter what. From today I am going to start to plan for Dec 8th to Dec 14th Write Tribe’s Festival of Words. Getting the posts ready in advance is the only way I guess I will be able to get through that one.

There have always been such undecided situations in my life. Will I get that job or not? Will I get the promotion or not? Will I be able to make the payments on time or not? Will the kids do well in the exams or not? Should I shift or not from this apartment? So many questions and confusions. The future is obviously not in our hands. We just need to hope to be able to complete the task we take up. We need to work hard at keeping our word. We need to show to others as well as ourselves that we are good with commitments. Not just with our job and family, but with ourselves too. This is something that I have learnt along this journey of four decades and I intend to take it to the next decade with me. I have given up enough things in life for varied reasons and broken commitments to myself that now I know I need to be happy with myself to make others around me happy. And failing a commitment is a terrible source of disappointment and unhappiness.

What about you? Do you think you will be able to complete the daily posting challenge for December 2013?
