Insomnia reading

How much more time are you going to take to finish this book? I will finish two by that time! Surprised? Insomnia gives me enough time. This book is next on my list!

Choose a word and use it three times in your 33 words. However, it must be either a verb, noun or adjective and the form of the word cannot change, it must appear exactly the same three times.

Being Tough

Trifecta 103

Remember (verb):

1 : to bring to mind or think of again

2 : archaic a : BETHINK b : REMIND

3 a : to keep in mind for attention or consideration b : REWARD

4 : to retain in the memory

5 : to convey greetings from

Use the 3rd meaning of the word REMEMBER in a post of 33 to 333 words.

“Life throws the toughest challenges to the toughest people” – That is what he had said. It made me smile though my tears at the time. I was not tough. I was the exact opposite of tough. At the simplest issue, I would turn around and ask God the all important question, “Why Me?”.

Whatever the reason behind his words, they brought me back to life that day. I had just had an abortion done. Having German Measles during pregnancy might lead to complications for the child, they said. So, I opted the easy way out. I gave up the life that was growing inside me. The doctor is a man of science. He didn’t need to make me feel better with kind words. His job is to diagnose and treat patients. We are just jobs to him.

Today, I have a healthy 4 year old. The doctor was the one who saw me through this pregnancy too. His wife needed O- negative blood today. Something which I could provide. How can I turn away from such a chance to remember what the doctor had done for me? So I did give blood. In spite of this , his wife couldn’t be saved.

The doctor who assisted the birth of at least three lives a day, couldn’t save his own wife. What is one to go and say to a person during such grief? All I could think about were the words he had once told to console me. Except in his case, it fitted him perfectly. He was a tough man.

There he was assisting another childbirth, less than an hour after he lost his wife. Being tough is a choice, I guess. The question I ask God now is “Why him?”. Such is the randomness of life. Some survive and some don’t. Yes, being tough is a choice. A choice to move on, no matter what…

Needless to say she ruins every relationship. The lust for better looks, better figure, better accent or even better writing skills. You never know when someone will succumb to the Goddess of Lust!

Holding on to a job is tough indeed in this world, thought Laxmi. Especially if you are a young widowed mother of two children. Her degree in Engineering was of not much importance to any of her bosses. Her looks , her figure and her smile. That is what everyone complimented her on.

Her hope of earning a decent livelihood was getting tougher by the day. She had left home to get married to the man she loved. She couldn’t return to her parents with her troubles. Her husband had no family to speak of either. She had stayed at home to look after her kids while her husband earned for them. But fate had other plans for her.

She invested the savings from the past three months into a camera disguised as a pen. She took that pen every where she went. She would then threaten , anybody who tries to harass her , with the video clippings. She managed to hold on to her job for now because of this. Her craft had managed to feed her kids and her. Nothing else mattered to her.

An ogre

For the Trifextra Week 92

In The Scorpio Races, author Maggie Stiefvater writes, “It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.”  Give us the next thirty-three words of this story, as you imagine it.  Take it wherever you like, but make it original and make it 33 words exactly.

“It is the first day of November and so, today, someone will die.”

That is the price they pay for the protection of their clan. The powerful ogre would stand guard of their land as long as he got a human to snack on every month.
