Hemingway this Wednesday on Write Tribe as the Wednesday Prompt :
Today, take your pick of one or all of these quotes from Hemingway and weave it/them into a story, a piece of non-fiction, a poem even.
“There’s no one thing that’s true. It’s all true.” (For Whom the Bell Tolls)
“Never to go on trips with anyone you do not love.” (A Moveable Feast)
“You can’t get away from yourself by moving from one place to another.” (The Sun Also Rises)
“When you love you wish to do things for. You wish to sacrifice for. You wish to serve.” (A Farewell to Arms)
“When you start to live outside yourself, it’s all dangerous.” (The Garden of Eden)
He : Why aren’t you making dinner?
She : I thought we could go out for dinner today.
He : This is the third night we are dining out this week!
She : So?
He : So? So? Money doesn’t grow on trees!
She : Oh I know that. It is you who earns it!
He : Maybe that is why you don’t feel the pinch.
She : Maybe!
He : What is wrong with you? You are a good cook and you always made such wonderful meals. What happened to that enthusiasm?
She : Just… Don’t feel like cooking anymore.
He : You already have handed over the dusting furniture job also to the cleaner. What is it that you do all day at home?
She : oh I don’t know where the time goes. I just open my laptop and before you know it is too late to enter the kitchen and start preparing dinner. I feel tired all the time too!
He : Tired? My mother is 20 years older than you and she still manages to cook meals on time!
She : Why don’t you invite her here? She can do the cooking for us then! I am sure she would love to interfere in our lives!
He : She doesn’t interfere! Forget it I am not getting into a fight with you! Get the kids, let’s go out for dinner!
She wonders what changed in her! The daily routine, the daily complains, the daily fight to live up to expectations? She didn’t feel like doing any of the things she enjoyed doing just a few months ago.
She remembers having read somewhere that “When you love you wish to do things for. You wish to sacrifice for. You wish to serve.” Where had her love gone? The romance had died in the first year of marriage itself. It took another 8 years and his hidden affair for the love to go too. Yes, only love can make you want to do and to serve.

P.S : Kindly forgive the negativity in posts. It is completely intentional. 😀
Also I haven’t read the book and haven’t the faintest idea in what context the quote is used in the book. Must read it as soon as possible. 🙂
